When was the last time in American history that people painted portraits of presidential candidates (or even presidents) on their houses?

Never.

To answer your question, I think it was when the key campaign mottoes were “Log Cabin” and “Hard Cider.”

Or maybe “Tippecanoe and Tyler Too.”

OK, I am an old fart of 62. But, I remember when my grandfather, who was a immigrant from Austria had a portrait of FDR on the wall of his shoe repair shop in the Bronx.
