Berkeley Tree-Sit Finally Ends

The ongoing “tree-sit” protest to stop construction of an athletic training center on the U.C. Berkeley campus finally came to a conclusion on September 9, 2008, when the last tree-sitters came down from the one remaining tree. The scene attracted a huge crowd of sympathizers, detractors, onlookers and media.

A recent legal ruling had cleared the way for the university to begin construction after a seemingly interminable series of delays which lasted over a year and a half. Within hours of the ruling, campus work crews felled all but two of the disputed trees which had occupied the work site — one that was to be transplanted elsewhere, and the other (a redwood) which housed the last four tree-sitters. A few days later, on September 9, after negotiations failed to convince them to come down of their own accord, the police had no choice but to bring them down whether they liked it or not. The stage was set for the final act.

Job well done to both you and ProtestShooter.

But something I noticed. In Protest’s video, near the end, I thought I saw that Rottweiler looking (My most humble apologies to the breed by the way) “Bodyguard” from code pink.

I tried to see if I spotted her or any of the other loons in the photos but had no luck.

    Was I just mistaken?

Were there any other code pinks there? And did they try to imbue them selves in any of the event?

I cannot help but think how much irreversible damage the sitters did to those trees so that even if the trees were “saved” they would probably suffer greatly or even die. Has anyone seen any MSM articles that talk about that?

I love the end of the post, with the photo of the construction site where the university tore down twice as many trees and nobody did anything. Does anything make sense there in Berkeley?

Funniest bout of product placement I’ve ever seen. I gotta remember that trick the next time I attend a protest.

Berkeley should announce that they plan to cut a large
grove of tree on the other side of the stadium, out of the way.

For practically no cost, they can effectively create a jail for dozens of trouble makers
who will voluntarily incarcerate themselves at the top of the threatened trees.

I think Joe is on to something here. We should threaten all trees in the Berkeley area. Would make life easier with that much stupid that high off the ground.
