“Vote Hillary for More Wars”

Sign spotted on a bicycle in San Francisco recently. Within the Bay Area political context, Hillary is now seen practically as a right-wing candidate. After an initial honeymoon with Bay Area voters (early in the campaign when she was regarded as a shoo-in for the nomination), Hillary has fallen on hard times around here, and is so far behind Obama in popularity that the few “Hillary” signs one sees these days are generally anti-Hillary.

Notice the afterthought on the sign: “Or draft Gore (Vidal).”

So zombie, is that same bike you rode in the San Francisco Naked Bike Ride last year?

  4. 4admin on Apr 3, 2008 at 11:36 am:

No, that bike had to be sent to the smelter and melted down — it was the only way it could be properly decontaminated.

OK, I just tried to change my name to “zombie.” Let’s see if it works.

    Woo-hoo!

Good job on the name change zombie. I know these new-fangled interwebs can be confusing sometimes. ;)

I’d have to echo the observation of that sentiment around the city. I see Obama rally posters up in the windows of appartments all over the city. I can’t think of a single place that I know has a prominantly displayed Hillary sign. Bumper stickers seem to be following the same trend.

Another odd shift of support (to me) is the falling out that the anti-war crowd has had with Nanci Pelosi. Her office was listed as a location to hold a protest during last month’s “Direct Action.” Capitalizing on this has been Cindy Sheehan, in her attempt to run against Pelosi for office. This is an image of a flyer I saw recently here in SF.

Just as an aside, I don’t know what it is about cyclists who use their rides as a vehicle for protest but they seem, for the most part, to bring a showing of minimal effort when creating their message. Zombie’s picture is one example. Here is another in which the rider is using a premade sign where you can insert your own organization’s name “for peace.” How about [Apathetic and trend-following hipsters] for peace?

Hmm, I guess some html tags aren’t allowed. The pic of the flyer is here.

One feature you might want to think about adding on here Zombie is a ‘Preview Post’ function for people when adding comments. I’ve never worked much with WP, so I don’t know if that’s possible without setting up permanent user/commenter accounts like they have on a site like HotAir.

Who would want to ride around with a policital sign on the back of their bike? Do they actually think they are going to sway peoples opinions with this or is it just a case of showing off how they are “better” than you because they are thinking the correct thoughts? Either way its sort of frightening.

Viewing things as being “left-wing” or “right-wing” is what creates the confusion. One might call our current administration “left-wing” for establishing the biggest government in US history.

Labels like “left” and “right” don’t work well. Very few things sit well on a linear gradient.

Zombie, I just waded through the muck at “Trans-Folx for Trans-Stuff” and find myself with one predominant observation:
When I looked at the pictures, first-pass, I took in details… when I scanned the pictures second-pass, second time through, I looked at The Whole Picture, as much as possible…

Looking, then, at the MAIN-dominant mode of dress, I’m of the opinion that Those Trans-People find themselves UGLY, and dress accordingly. Then, they meet for public or private efforts (as pictured in your photo-essay) TO TELL THEMSELVES HOW BEAUTIFUL THEY ARE!

    Sad, very sad people…
