Live Like Pigs, Die Like Pigs

On February 29 of this year, a small protest in front of Berkeley’s Marine Corps Officer Recruiting Office produced some of the most egregious signs I’ve ever seen at a political event. One of my pictures from that day was was posted at Little Green Footballs, but I never put that one (or any others from the protest) on zombietime. Until now.

I don’t even remember what the supposed reason was for the protest on that particular day. Not that it matters. There’s always a reason to protest again America, isn’t there? (BTW, both of these signs refer approvingly to the 1983 Beirut barracks bombing in which 241 Americans and 58 Frenchmen were killed by a group calling itself “Islamic Jihad.”)

On the sidewalk, someone had inscribed a list of every single real or imagined American foreign policy misdeed since WWII.

The list went on and on…and on and on. They were still adding to it as I left.

Get the chalk! Someone forgot the German democracy of 1944.

“On October 19, 1983, Bernard Coard, a hard-line communist, led a coup against the government of Maurice Bishop. Though Bishop was cooperating with Cuba & Russia on various trade and foreign policy issues, Bishop sought to maintain a “non-aligned” status, and so was deemed insufficiently revolutionary by Marxists in his government. A few days later Bishop and several of his followers were executed by the Coard regime, which then put the island under martial law. For four days no one was allowed to leave their homes, under threat of summary execution…”–wiki

And then the Marines landed and crushed Coard’s democracy.

“After the invasion of the island nation, the pre-revolutionary Grenadan constitution was resumed. Many Cuban soldiers who had escaped into the countryside seeking to avoid being forced to return to communist Cuba were corralled in by the locals over the subsequent weeks, who were given the extra incentive of a cash bounty for each captured Cuban. Graffiti thanking the United States for liberating Grenada is still seen today on the streets of St. George’s.”–more wiki

You silly fellows. You’re supposed to be fighting US Imperialism, not celebrating it!

Sigh…if they so hate US imperialism why don’t they leave the US?

I want to stay FARRRRRR away from those old coots. I went to high school with one of the Marines murdered in the Beirut barracks.

Wow, who are those people protesting? Obviously not Americans, coz I saw Joe Biden on TV the other day saying that everyone’s patriotic! Everyone loves America!! Idiot. An odd way to show they love America. Kind of the way that Obama’s associate Ayers shows his love for America.

  10. 10Joeb on Oct 20, 2008 at 6:11 pm:

The Marines who saw their buddies perished in the 1983 Beirut barracks bombing and assisted in pulling out the survivors would wanted to “talk” to these stupid old coots. You know what I mean by “talk”, Marine-style.

They’ll give some long- winded reason like “We need to fight the Man here at home,” but the real reason is because they love taking advantage of the freedoms and benefits living in our country offers them, and they have no interest in going to a place like Cuba or Iran to see firsthand what REAL tyranny looks like.

On a tour of Grenada a couple of years ago, the mini-bus rounded a corner and, covering the wall of a gas station from top to bottom, I saw the “AA” shoulder patch of the 82nd Airborne and the words, “Thank You America.”

Appears there was some disagreement with American Progressive Thought on the ground where it mattered.

Makes sense. That’s what I did, anyway: put my money where my mouth was and moved overseas. Won me quite a bit of respect from (right-wing) people who were previously unwilling to listen to anything I had to say.

Really? You won some respect from me. I’m serious. Lots of people, on the right and left, make all kinds of statements about how they’ll move away if so-and-so doesn’t get elected etc. People that keep their word are rare these days. I am interested to know what country you chose and why. Don’t worry, I won’t stalk you.

They did. They left the USA and moved to Berkeley.

“You won some respect from me”

    Well, thanks for that.

How should I explain this? I come from a very long line of old left-leaners, including a great grandpa who was a member of the United Steelworkers long ago. My father and mother were both anti-war activists in the 60′s, given a background like that, naturally I would gravitate towards left-wing causes and I eventually joined the CP-USA, a party that, no doubt, has very few friends on this website. I choose it, however, because it was the most moderate of all the left-wing parties and hadn’t morphed into a pseudo-political cult like the RCP-USA or ::shudder:: The International Bolshevik Tendency. Although I’m a leftist (and, yes, I’ll admit it: a Marxist), I’m still very moderate in my views and I absolutely despise hypocrites, which is why I love Zombie’s pictures. It relly is hilarious (or pathetic) to see how hypocritical and extreme many people on the left can be, I’ll admit it.

Anyway, I moved to China and now I’ve been here for quite a while. I’ve got a wife and kid and am appying for permanent residence, so I guess I’m stuck here now!

The oxygen thief in the red hat and the beard is part of the rent a mob crowd that travels around getting a few bucks, probably to supplement his retirement, probably as a professor at UCB. He joins the crowd that usually blows whistles and yells “Shame, Shame, Shame..” at TV crew gatherings. The other guy doesn’t look too well, though… God Bless the United States Marine Corp!, past, present and future.

I don’t understand the logic that where I happened to be born should blind me to its flaws. If you were born in China, by that line of reasoning, you should not be protesting its human rights violations, corruption, pollution, etc?

Some things are worth getting a criminal record for, like punching people who hold signs like that. Punching them right in the face. Normally I wouldn’t advocate violence like that, but a man’s got his limits…
