Ken: Starless, I’m confused about your comment above. Zombie receiving threatening emails is bad, yes, but so is racist violence against innocent people. It doesn’t matter who receives more of it, one racist incident or one threatening email is still one too many IMHO. One doesn’t excuse the other.

I’m not excusing any sort of racism or violence, but at a time in American history when racism and violence against Arab-Americans would have been most expected, there was very, very little. Compare 9/12/01 and following to WWII and the treatment of German- and Japanese-Americans. Instead of pointing out these sorts of facts, people like Chris Matthews will first raise scary alarms about white militia-types and then when they are proven wrong, instead of admitting they jumped to the wrong conclusion, they’ll throw out the specter of potential violence, threats, and racism. This at a time when the American population has shown that it is less likely than ever to live up to that particular unsavory potential.

The legacy liberal media has created this biased narrative — presumed potential violence, threats, and racism from one segment of the political spectrum (the segment they don’t sympathize with) is a bigger problem than actual violence, threats and racism from another (the segment they do sympathize with). They’ve got these prejudices and expectations and when people don’t conform to those prejudices and expectations, they do their best to create a fantasy world and persuade everyone to buy into it.

Someone remind — how many acts of outright racism and/or violence were commited against Arab-Americans after 9/11? Less than a dozen? Less than half a dozen?

I’m not suggesting all red hair in Europe came from Eric the Red and I don’t know how “true” it is, but it’s what a friend who was an Old English/Old Norse scholar told me.
