OK, after extensive research, I just confirmed that the Obama speech was indeed at the Mehran fundraiser, not at the Getty fundraiser as had been reported earlier. (There were a lot of conflicting claims floating around, but the clincher came when I listened to the entire 50-minute original sound clip, and at one point, almost inaudibly, Obama says [or seems to say], “I’d like to thank Alex….”). The Mehran fundraiser was immediately after the Getty one, and just a few short blocks away — so the setting of the speech was basically the same.

Because of this, I’ve now updated this post, and also my earlier zombietime report.

Nothing discredits a condescending asshole so much as his own words. So rather than me point out how ruinous your attitude is for the Obama campaign, I’ll just relax and let you do my work for me.

C’mon, guys, we all want to hear what you have to say! Keep telling us how right Obama was, or how his words were “taken out of context,” or what ignorant hicks we are, and forth. You’re essentially all a bunch of mini-Obamas who represent what his supporters really think. You’re doing a great job!

We can just sit back and watch the implosion from afar. Quite a spectacular show!

So you think that unemployed factory workers and struggling farmers “…cling to guns, or religion, or antipathy toward people who aren’t like them, or anti-immigrant sentiment…” etc, as a way to explain their frustrations?

Is it not possible that many Americans are simply in favor of the Second Amendment, are religious because the actually believe in God, and would simply like to see our immigration laws enforced?

Sen. Obama’s remarks reveal a view of working-class Americans as stupid, fearful and racist, clinging to the only things they know; their guns, their superstitions and their bigotry.

Or as Marx put it, ““Die religion ist das opium des volkes.”

Middle-America is as foreign to Barack Obama as Indonesia is to most middle-Americans.

Maybe he could have phrased it differently but I defy you to find a factory worker who’s out of a job or a farmer who can’t afford to grow crops who doesn’t feel exactly the way he described. If this is the best you can do to attack the man and his message then I’d say he’s doing just fine.

Well, you’ve got your work cut out for you.
